Mac Mini M4 not recognising any keyboard/mouse via TESmart HID ports
I’ve already emailed TESmart support, but I wanted to share here in case anyone else has had the same issue.
KVM Model
TESmart HDMI+DP 4K@60Hz KVM Switch (2 Computers 2 Monitor | HDMI & DisplayPort Inputs w/EDID Emulator | USB Hub, L/R Audio | Hotkey/IR/Button Switching | 2 Display Modes | Zero Delay K&M).
According to the Amazon listing, this model is fully compatible with Mac, Linux, and Windows. Unfortunately, in practice, I’m not finding that to be the case.
Setup
- Computers:
- Mac Mini M4 (latest macOS)
- Linux workstation
-
- Displays: Two 32-inch LG monitors (video switching is fine).
- Input devices tested:
- Cheap 2.4 GHz wireless keyboard (own dongle) + cheap 2.4 GHz wireless mouse (own dongle).
- Logitech MX Keys Mini + Logitech MX Master 3S using a Logitech Bolt receiver (single Bolt dongle — not Unifying).
- Cherry wired keyboard with built-in trackpad.
Results
- Cheap 2.4 GHz dongles: Linux works via HID ports; Mac Mini = not recognised. Works on both via Aux, but Aux disables hotkeys.
- Logitech MX Keys Mini + MX Master 3S (Bolt): Not recognised on either Linux or Mac through HID. Works on both via Aux, but Aux disables hotkeys.
- Cherry wired keyboard/trackpad: Works on Linux HID, not recognised on Mac HID. Works via Aux, but Aux disables hotkeys.
Troubleshooting already done
- All port combinations (correct, swapped, single device).
- Hot-plugging while on Mac input.
- Boot order changes (cold boot with KVM on Mac).
- Multiple warm/cold reboots.
- Retested everything on Linux for control.
- Also searched online/YouTube — nothing helpful so far.
Summary
- Linux: works with cheap dongles + Cherry via HID; rejects Bolt.
- Mac Mini M4: rejects all devices through HID ports; only recognises them through Aux.
- Aux always works, but disables hotkeys and breaks the dual-monitor / dual-system workflow this KVM is designed for.
Question
How can I use a wireless or wired keyboard and mouse that will work reliably on both my Mac Mini M4 and my Linux workstation through the TESmart’s dedicated HID ports — keeping hotkey switching — without having to rely on the Aux port or buy new hardware?
I’ve only had this switch for 1 weeks, so I’m really hoping there’s a fix or firmware update. Returning to Amazon isn’t feasible (box was thrown away).

Dear Dunc,
Thank you very much for your detailed message, and we sincerely apologize for the inconvenience this has caused.
We’ve carefully reviewed the test results you shared and are working closely with our technical team to reproduce the issue on a Mac Mini M4 in our lab. This will allow us to confirm the root cause and evaluate whether a firmware update can improve compatibility with macOS.
In the meantime, you may continue using the Aux USB port as a temporary workaround, though we understand this limits hotkey switching and does not fully meet your workflow needs. Your feedback is very valuable for us, and we’ll use it to help optimize both firmware and future product design.
We’ll keep you updated on our progress and notify you immediately once a solution or firmware update is available.
Thank you again for your patience and understanding, and for bringing this to our attention.
Best regards,
