DKS202-M24 unstable EDID emulator on Windows
Hi there! I'm using DKS202-M24 for quite some time and I'm absolutely happy with it. Although it works exactly as expected, there are still some issues I want to address since I'm struggling with them from time to time.
I'm having the following setup:
- PC1: MacBook Pro M1 Max with Anker 777 + StarTech Thunderbolt to 2xDP adapter
- PC2: Desktop with RTX5090 and 2 DP outputs
And the following screens:
- AOC Q2790 at 2K/60Hz: Screen 1 in KVM
- Asus VG27AQL1A at 2K/144Hz: Screen 2 in KVM
So, basically, here are the issues:
- When working with Windows (PC2) and locking the screen, both screens go to sleep and then screen number 1 wakes up again with just a backlight turned on. While trying to unlock PC maximized windows from Screen 1 go to Screen 2. I'm not entirely sure it's due to KVM or Windows itself, but I changed couple GPUs since that and all of them have the same issue. This might be due to EDID emulation, it's turned on, without that it's even worse. When I physically swap screens in KVM the issue migrates as well.
- Another issue is that sometimes after power cycling PC2 window sizes shuffle: some windows become smaller and some windows become bigger. “Save window position” option is enabled.
- When working on MacOS (PC1) sometimes after switch maximized windows become smaller a bit, and sometimes it's not the case. Really hard to catch, but still
- When I used to have MacBook on Intel I could connect yet another USB Hub to KVM and made it work (since I have a bunch of peripherals I want to share across machines, such as 2 webcams, USB Headset and USB Mic) and KVM only has 2 ports for that. For Apple Silicon Macs they strenghted the ammount of USB3 hubs in system and apparently DKS202-M24 has so much internal hubs that after Hub + KVM + Dock MacOS just throws “USB Hub depth exceeded” and I'm left without any peripherals at all. The only solution is to stick to only 2 shared peripherals, but as I said, I'd like to either have less USB Hub depth or more shared USB ports on KVM.
- There's also a solution to connect USB hub to USB2 port in Dock and downgrade the whole system to USB2 which doesn't have hub depth rule, but in this case I can't use Ethernet adapter in KVM (because of USB bandwidth) and the whole system becomes unstable (since 2 webcomes also need a huge bandwidth)
- Moving to HDC202-X24 is also not an option since it's not supporting VRR (and it's a strict requirement for my setup, since I'm using PC mostly for gaming), DisplayLink/MST is also not an option, since most of the time MacBooks are corporate laptops and I'm not allowed to install DisplayLink software. MST is miss since MacOS doesn't support it.
So, could you please help me troubleshooting and fixing issues I just mentioned. I'd also love to switch to Thunderbolt+2xDP KVM if you're having such (or just developing such), since my only goal to switch Gaming PC and MacOS laptop across gaming screens.
Thank you!
