Keyboard & Mouse Emulation Mode
Hello :)
I have been using my new HDC402-P23 device for a week now and it's pretty epic! However, I have 1 issue that I'd like support with, please.
I have a “Drop CTRL V1 Mechanical” keyboard and a “Logitech G502 X” mouse. The keyboard isn't recognised when in the default Pass-Through mode, but when I change to the Legacy Emulation mode, it works. However, my mouse works in both modes, but of course I don't get any of the extra/fancy gaming features with the Logitech G-Hub software when in the legacy emulation mode.
So, here are my questions:
- Am I able to change just the keyboard USB port to legacy emulation mode, and keep the mouse USB port in pass-through mode, potentially with a firmware update?
- Can you tell me why my keyboard doesn't get recognised in pass-through mode?
- Even though I love my keyboard, I'm happy to replace it with another device, but my fear is that it also won't get recognised. Similar to my question above (2.), if you can explain why my current one isn't recognised, would you also be able to tell me what keyboards are safe to use? I don't expect a list of every keyboard ever made :) but some extra information to help me, will be greatly appreciated.
Hopefully everything above makes sense and I'm looking forward to hearing from you, thanks.
P.S. I have some feedback regarding the device. My daily work scenario is 2 laptops and 2 monitors, 1 monitor per laptop (I think you call this “Mixed-Mode”). I'm happy using the keyboard shortcuts to give focus from 1 laptop to another (keyboard & mouse), works great! And I'm also happy to use the keyboard shortcuts to focus my peripherals to a specific laptop i.e. webcam & mic. However, it would be great if I could do that in 1 go i.e. push the “1” or "2" buttons. It does technically do that, but it ALSO resets the scene and assigns both monitors to the 1 laptop, forcing the user to then re-assign monitor A to laptop 1 and monitor B to laptop 2. It's not bad, but I feel like it could be a lot better. But perhaps it's just me :)
Thanks again and take care.

Dear Liamhicks,
Thank you very much for your detailed message and for the positive feedback on the HDC402-P23. We truly appreciate the time you took to explain your setup and experience.
Please allow us to address your questions one by one:
1) Separate emulation modes for keyboard and mouse
At this time, it is not possible to configure the keyboard and mouse to use different USB modes independently. This limitation is due to the underlying USB controller architecture, where keyboard and mouse share the same USB handling logic.
That said, your suggestion is absolutely valid and provides valuable input for our future product and firmware design. We sincerely appreciate you sharing this idea with us.2) Why the Drop CTRL V1 is not recognized in Pass-Through mode
The Drop CTRL V1 is considered a complex HID device. In Pass-Through mode, the KVM functions as a high-speed USB hub and dynamically re-enumerates connected devices during switching. Some advanced programmable keyboards use multiple HID interfaces, custom USB descriptors, or have stricter enumeration timing requirements. As a result, they may fail to be properly recognized in Pass-Through mode, while continuing to work normally in Legacy Emulation mode.
Please note that this behavior does not indicate a faulty keyboard or an incorrect setup. Rather, it reflects a known compatibility boundary when using highly programmable keyboards with USB switching devices.
3) Guidance on choosing a compatible keyboard
If you decide to replace the keyboard, devices that behave closer to a “standard” USB HID keyboard tend to have a much higher success rate in Pass-Through mode. In general, keyboards with fewer composite interfaces and less dependency on proprietary drivers offer better compatibility. We understand your concern and hope this information helps you make a more confident choice.
Finally, thank you as well for your thoughtful feedback regarding Mixed-Mode usage and shortcut behavior. Feedback like yours is extremely valuable to us and will be shared with our product team for future optimization.
If you have any further questions or need additional assistance, please feel free to reach out. We’re always happy to help.
Kind regards,
-
