DisplayLink on macOS – black screen with Netflix / DRM content?

Hey all,

We’ve been running into this quite a bit lately with DisplayLink setups on macOS, so figured it’s worth calling out.

If you’re using something like the HDC203-PM24 (or really any DisplayLink-based setup), you might notice that:

Netflix, Prime Video, etc. → just show a black screen
Everything else → works completely fine

This isn’t a bug on the device side — we’re seeing the exact same behavior across other DisplayLink docks as well. Even macOS screen recording triggers the same thing with protected content.

So this seems to be more of a macOS-level restriction around DRM content, rather than anything specific to a particular device.

We’ve had a few users flag this as a hardware issue, so just putting it out here in case others run into the same thing.

Curious if this matches what you’re seeing:

• Same behavior on your setup?
• Any cases where DRM content actually works over DisplayLink on macOS?
• Any workarounds you’ve found?
